To J. W. Mandeville U. S. Surveyor General in and for the State of California
The Subscribers, owners and posessors by valid title of portions of the tract of land situated in the County of Contra Costa granted to William Welsh by Govr Micheltorano on the 20th of February 1844 under the laws of Mexico, and known by the name of "Las Juntas" do hereby protest against the survey of the Ranch of "Las Juntas" and that of "Canada Del Hambre" recently made by A. W. Von Schmidt Esq U. S. Dept Surveyor under instruction from said J. W. Mandeville on the follows grounds, viz-
1st Because the said two Ranchos were surveyed together in a body and at the same time when it is clear from the title, that the Rancho of "Las Juntas" should have been first surveyed and located.
2nd The lines and boundaries of the "Las Juntas or Welsh Ranch have been located without reference to the natural well known and notorious boundaries set out in the expediente and title and have been arbitrarily and without color of law or authority fixed far from such known and natural boundaries for the purpose
