THE CONORD SUN CONCORD SUN. Thursday......JULY 11, 1883 S. FARJEON, Editor and Publisher Communications with reference to social happenings, births, deaths, marriages, and all matters of import to our county, are solicited by The Concord Sun. All such details should be plainly written and signed by the writer as a verification of the facts detailed, it being understood the writer's name not to be inserted in The Sun unless requested by the writer. NOTICE TO SUBSCRIBERS AND ADVERTISERS OF "THE SUN." On account of the serious sickness of Mrs. S. Farjeon—which at any moment may result in death— and my presence together with my family being necessary at her bedside, "THE CONCORD SUN" will not be issued this week. Hoping my patrons and readers for the above reasons will excuse the non-issuance of "THE SUN" for this week, I beg to subscribe myself Very Respectfully, S. FARJEON, July 12, 1883. Publisher. —Mr. James Barrett, a native of England, of Irish parentage, and for many years a resident of San Ramon, died suddenly on the 8th inst. Coroner J. W. Guy summoned a jury, and on examination of the evidence rendered a verdict of death through excessive alcoholirm. Deceased was hotel proprietor of Limerick Hotel of San Ramon, and leaves a family. SUNDAY SERVICES: Presbyterian—Pastor, Rev. D. Munro, M. A., Service at Concord, at 11 a. m.; at Pacheeo, 7 p. m. only on alternate evenings ; Sunday School, at Concord, at 10 a. m.; preaching at Concord on alternate evenings. Congreational Church—Pastor, Rev J. H. Strong service at Pacheeo, 2:30 p. m.: at Clayton, 11 a. m. Roman Catholic Church—Pastor, Rev. Father Jas. H. Aerden. MAILS CLOSE AT Concord 8:50 A.M.* Clayton 5:45 A.M.* Walnut Creek 7:45 P.M.* Pacheco 9:00 A.M.* —A distressing occurrence took place at Pinole on the 8th inst. Mr Henry Orrville Beaman, Assistant Superintendent of the California Powder Works, left his residence last Sunday morning at about 4 A. M. to take his usual bath in the bay. Several hours passing without his return, his wife bacame anxious. She went in search of him and discovered his dead body lying where the tide of about two feet of water had left Coroner J. W. Guy being immediately summoned, convened a jury, who rendered a verdict of accidental drowning, the position of the body giving every evidence that deceased came to his death from the effect of cramps while bathing. The unfortunate man was highly esteemed, leaves a large circle of acquaintances, and a young wife to whom he had been united about a year. He was 25 years of age, and a native of Massachusetts.
