Description |
Pleasant Hill/Central Library Chronology: Representatives of church, civic, and fraternal organizations in Pleasant Hill organize the Pleasant Hill Library Committee (June 1953). Friends of the Library raise funds to renovate abandoned Pleasant Hill Elementary School for use as a library (February 14-21, 1954). Pleasant Hill Branch Library opens (November 29, 1954). County Library acquires land and announces plans for construction of a warehouse and administrative offices (mid 1950s). Groundbreaking (March 9, 1960). Dedication of the County Library Office Building, and Pleasant Hill Branch Library (September 9, 1961). Board of Supervisors adopts Committee’s recommendation and resolves to create a special area in the Contra Costa County Central Library as a memorial to Congressman Baldwin (March 28, 1967). Dedication of the John F. Baldwin Reference Room (September 18, 1971). The Pleasant Hill Library transitions from the County’s Central Library to a Community Library for Pleasant Hill (July 2009). |
