Ygnacio Valley Library Chronology: Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors accepts gift of 1.15-acre site from Nellie G. Casey (November 25, 1969). County Board of Supervisors with consent of Cities of Concord and Walnut Creek forms County Service Area LIB-13 to finance construction of a public library building to serve the rapidly growing population in the Ygnacio Valley (December 1, 1970). Groundbreaking (July 3, 1974). Dedication ceremonies (September 13, 1975). Thurman G. Casey Memorial (Ygnacio Valley) Library opens to the public (September 15, 1975). Walnut Creek Library Foundation raises more than $180,000 for improvements at the Library to redesign the entrance and checkout areas, seismically brace shelving, expand computer access throughout the building, and replace carpeting and upholstery (2004). |
