"This original Alameda -Contra Costa County line marker was placed close to what is now the intersection of Fish Ranch Road and Grizzly Peak Blvd in 1895. When Grizzly Peak was paved in the 1930's the marker was discarded down the embankment. Two teenagers on horseback retrieved it. In July 2000 it was donated to the Moraga Historical Society by George L. Hemphill and installed here. The marker is of cast iron 1 foot square, 3 feet high, and weighs 400 pounds."
