Description	Located in Orinda. Said to be the only remaining part of Moraga's Rancho past, located on a hill above Moraga Valley. Construction began in 1841; originally 3 rooms. Made of bricks to form 36" width exterior walls. Redwood cut from Moraga Redwoods was used for beams and the plank ceiling. The building was expanded over the years. The Moraga family hosted a "fandango" in the house on New Year's Eve 1854. Ownership of the building changed hands beginning in 1885 when Horace W. Carpentier, an opportunist and speculator who was to become the most infamous character in the history of Moraga, took possession of most of the Moraga Rancho. In 1912, James Irvine, owner and founder of the Moraga Company purchased the property and it was used as a dairy. The County condemned any use of the building for even daily production in 1929.
